Faithfulness. A lesson in faithfulness and hope - even when faint, these men continued to do their work. They who serve in this way will find consolation.
Excellent! The love of Christ surrounds us - everywhere we turn, we see His love for us. The love of Christ gives to the Christian the greatest motivation to live right - the love of Christ compels us. Excellent illustration of this teaching in the life of Paul.
Redemption. By the shedding of His blood, Christ, our Passover lamb, redeemed us from the wrath of God; redeemed us from the bondage of sin; and redeemed us unto holiness.
Warning for church and individual. Balaam, a warning for the church and for the individual. For the church: he preached the Word of God, but he submitted not to it; he mixed orthodoxy with the occult; he had bad alliances and secret wishes. For the individual: he knew the truth, but was lost; he wanted to die the death of the saints, but died in sin; he let material things to blind him to the spiritual things.
Separation. There must be a valley, a separation between us and the Satan's forces. We must meet them in valley only for battle. A call to separation from Liberalism and apostasy.
Great lesson. Clear explanation of New Testament teaching of this subject. It was speaking in foreign language, a sign miracle given for a time as attestation of new era of revelation. The modern tongues is not the NT gift.
Legacy: Focused on Christ Preaching focused on Christ is Dr. Cairns' legacy. His sermons are always focused on the unsearchable riches of Christ, which can never be exhausted. Why do so many other preachers not preach about Christ? The shallowness of contemporary preaching is even more obvious when listening to sermons from preachers like Dr. Cairns. I haven't been listening that long, but I have been blessed by Dr. Cairns' Christ-centered preaching.
Evangelistic sermon. Evangelistic sermon. What will you do at the time of death without Christ? Another subject: bring your burden before the Lord.
Going with God. Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Daniel, the three Hebrew young men in Babylon, Vashti. They all teach us to say no to different temptations of the world: silver, sex, sovereignty, comfort, compromise.
Peace from God. Remedy for sin, unbelief, doubt, conscience problems: fixing your mind upon God will give you peace. A message from verses 3 and 4.
Four pictures. The burning bush reminds us about the preservation of the Scriptures throughout the ages - Satan could not destroy it; about the pathway of the saints - the fire of persecutions could not destroy us; about the eternal punishment and fire in hell; and about the person, the passion and the power of the Son of God. Excellent idea: in Old Testament we see that the fire consumed the lambs sacrificed, but Jesus, the Lamb of God consumed the fire on the cross!
Walking with God. Verse 16: a description of our generation - the days are evil; and the duty of the Christian - to redeem the time. From verse 14-21, how to redeem the time.
Sin and revival. A message from the first years of this church. A message about sin and compromise, and about revival. Ebenezer a place of retreat, a place of revival and a place of remembrance.
Great old-fashioned preaching. Courageous standing on biblical truth, declaring the inspiration of the Bible, the divinity and incarnation of Christ, of salvation through the sacrifice of Christ, of salvation through faith. A call to separate from apostasy.
