Birthdays:

“ Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry. Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.” -- Acts 17:16-17

We cannot help but be distressed at the sight of false religion. Believers are surrounded by it in their day-to-day lives. Their families practice it and their co-workers and friends are involved in it. What should we do in response? Exactly what Paul did: correct error with truth! Displace the idols of false religion with the God of true religion. Be bold. Be ready to give an answer for the hope that lies within you. Be light in this dark world. Do not let the honor of Christ go undefended. Do not let your families, friends and co-workers die in ignorance. If they persist in their way to judgment, you cannot stop them; but you can at least render the duty of love to correct and warn them. You may make a few enemies along the way – Paul did. But think of the friends, even brothers in the Lord, you may find along the way! – Joseph Terrell

Trusting God

Most of us don't know God well enough to trust Him. Are you persuaded that God has complete control in reference to the things, which excite our anxiety? Are you persuaded that He will use this control in the best way as far as we are concerned? If I am to cast my cares on Him, I must know Him to be my Father; I must know Him to be my Friend; I must know Him to be my Protector, my Shepherd, my Guide, my Righteousness, and my Salvation.

I must believe His testimony that He loves me for Christ's sake. He careth for you. It's a small thing for God to care for us. He provides for the cattle on a thousand hills, all the wild beasts, an army of birds, fish and insects. Your needs and mine are scarcely a crumb from God's table. If He says, "I will care for you," then He WILL. – Scott Richardson

Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.” – Daniel 6:5

Daniel was now ninety years of age; he had spent more than the ordinary life of man in the very heart of a wicked city and corrupt court. He had riches and honours and everything to make this world enjoyable; but he never turned aside from the narrow way, either to the right hand or left. The eyes of all were fixed upon him; many envied him and hated him. They examined his public conduct; they inquired into his private character; they sifted his words and actions; but they sought in vain for any ground of accusation. He was so steady, so upright, so conscientious, that they could find no occasion of fault in him . . . they could not touch him except as concerning the law of his God. Oh, what an unanswerable argument is this believer’s life! Oh, what an epistle of Christ is the daily conduct of a child of God! Men cannot see your hearts, nor understand your principles, but they can see your lives; and if they find that pious (devout) masters, servants, brothers, friends, sisters, husbands, wives, do far exceed all others in their several positions, then you are bringing glory to God and honour to your Redeemer. Think not that your profession is worth anything, if it is not known of others for its fruit; without this it is little better than sounding brass and a tinkling cymbal. We do not find that Daniel blew his trumpet before him, and talked everywhere about his own experience; but he walked close to God, and his life spoke for him, and his character became known in Babylon, and even his enemies were obliged to confess, The hand of God is here, the Lord is with this man of a truth. – J.C. Ryle

** Brother Ryle throughout this sermon I read by him, speaks of the grace of God that makes a man like Daniel. This excerpt is printed, not to discourage us, nor cause us to look to ourselves, but to encourage us to seek the same grace that God gave this Daniel. And how did Daniel receive such grace to bear such fruit? Daniel prayed without ceasing . . . constantly, habitually, continually in prayer.
