What It Is To Confess Christ -- by Henry Mahan

Our Lord said, "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess before my Father which is in Heaven" (Matthew 10:32). What is it to confess Christ? . . .

1. It is to have an understanding in the mind of WHO Christ is, WHAT Christ did, and WHERE Christ is. "The Son of God has come and given us an understanding...." (I John 5:20).

2. It is to believe Christ in the heart. "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto Salvation." (Romans 10:9-10) To receive Christ with a sincere and genuine heart love, and committal as Lord and Saviour, Prophet, Priest, and King.

3. It is to confess Christ openly and publicly in believer’s baptism. "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved." Baptism does not save nor add anything to the Saviour’s work; but it is a confession of, identification with, and testimony of the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord, and our own death to sin and resurrection TO WALK WITH HIM.

4. It is identification with the church of our Lord Jesus, the people who love Him, and the preachers who preach His Gospel of free and sovereign Grace. Paul said to Timothy, "Be not ashamed of the testimony (Gospel) of our God, nor of me His servant, but be ready yourself to partake (be identified) of the afflictions of the Gospel." Where the Gospel is preached, where the true people of God meet to worship, where the name of Christ is worshipped and

exalted, THERE I WANT TO BE! And if I truly love Christ and confess Christ, THERE I WILL BE!

Faith And Works – by Maurice Montgomery

The Word of God, from beginning to end, plainly, clearly and emphatically declares that sinners are justified by the sovereign purpose and free grace of God, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; and that even the sinner’s faith is a free gift of God, wrought in the sinner’s soul by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 2: 8- 10; Romans 3:24-26; 4:16; 11:6). No sinner has ever been or ever shall be justified and reconciled unto God by his own works, but through faith and trust in Christ and His accomplished work for sinners (Romans 4: 5,6; 5:19; II Corinthians 5:18-21).

However, the Word of God is equally plain, clear and emphatic that any faith which is “without works is dead” (Ephesians 2:10; James 2; Hebrews 11). Such faith is a delusion, a vain dream, a lie. Those who profess and hold on to a faith which leaves them indifferent to the hearing of the gospel, the preaching, propagation and support of the gospel, and the fellowship of those who love the gospel, are professing something which they do not possess and holding on to something which they would be far better off without! Noah heard.....believed.....and moved with fear... (Hebrews 11: 7).

God Will Punish Sin!– by Rolfe Barnard

Almost everybody in America is a church member, but they don’t think that God will punish sin. They sleep well at night, because they don’t believe that God will punish sin. They don’t let their church membership interfere with their daily living, because they don’t believe that God will punish sin. Talk to them about Jesus dying on the cross and they are not interested, because they don’t believe that God will punish sin. And, of course, nobody will be interested in whether Christ did anything for him on the cross until he believes that God will punish sin. There is no use to apply a remedy to this generation; this generation does not need its sins forgiven, for they don’t think there is any punishment awaiting them. What they need to hear is the first message of that bloody cross of my Lord, GOD WILL PUNISH SIN! Every time they nailed those nails into the flesh of the Son of God, every stroke of the hammer was saying, "Godwill punish sin," "God will punish sin," "God will punish sin."

I am always going into the far country, and always returning as a prodigal, always saying, ‘Father, forgive me,’ and Thou art always bringing forth the best Robe. Every morning let me wear It, every evening return in It, go out to work in It, be married in It, be wound in death in It, stand before the great white throne in It, enter Heaven in It shining as the sun. -- unknown
