As we've studied 1 Corinthians chapter 2 and related passages, we've seen that in order for Christians to understand and properly interpret the Bible, we need the illumination of the Scriptures by the indwelling Holy Spirit. The only supernatural Book requires supernatural light.
Today we continue studying key principles for the proper interpretation of Scripture. On the positive side, we need to let Scripture be its own interpreter; we need to compare Scripture with Scripture. And on the negative side, that we must never let the ever-changing and unenlightened opinions of the unbelieving world govern how we as Christians look at the Bible.
These principles lead us to several points of application for the individual Christian, and for the church as a body. |
