As I conclude 40 years of serving this congregation, I don't want to be remembered. I want to leave a mark. That mark is the gospel.
What is the gospel? Scripture is very clear: the gospel centers in the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
It is the answer to our most basic need. That need is that we have sinned and stand under the wrath of a holy God. That basic need amplifies the love of God because it is the love of God alone that provides the gospel.
Christ Jesus died as our substitute, doing everything necessary that we may be right with God in this life and the next.
May that message be the lasting mark on this congregation. May we have a mark and not a monument to any man.
