The church at Pergamos had a lot of faithful members who held fast to the truth of Scripture. But they also had the seeds of error in a group of people called the Nicolaitans. They taught the doctrine of Balaam -- a doctrine of compromise. Too many churches today compromise with worldly standards, worldly music, and worldly entertainment. They do these things in the name of reaching the world, but in the end, they simply become worldly churches. Historically, the church at Pergamos represents the period of history that gives rise to the Catholic church. A hierarchy of clergy develops. Christians forget that we are all made kings and priests to our God. How many of the compromises of Pergamos are present in our churches today? Pastor Robert Rohlin shows how Satan's plan is to corrupt us through subtle and increasing compromises to destroy our spiritual vitality. Robert Rohlin is a pastor at First Baptist Church Las Colinas in Irving, TX -- a family integrated Baptist Church in the Baptist Missionary Association. |
