We have all been guilty of taking matters into our own hands in some way at some time or another, I'm sure. This is exactly what we see Saul doing in 1 Samuel 13. Fortunately for us, the future of an entire nation and monarchy are not usually jeopardized by our foolishness as they were by Saul's. But more fortunately, or should I say, mercifully, the Lord has sought out another king to rule his people. He will rule under God's gracious hand and will listen to the voice of God. In Saul's time, that man was David. But David is just a foretaste of the one to come – the Son of David – Jesus Christ. When all seems lost and we find our foolish selves helpless and without a hope in the world, it is the Lord alone who is able to save us. Thank the Lord he has "sought out a man after his own heart."
