This is the annual opening address to the faculty and staff of Grace Christian School in Alexandria, Louisiana. This year our school is set to welcome over 500 students. How will we deal with them?
We live in a changing culture, one that appears to be much less influenced by Christianity than the world in which I was raised in the 40s, 50s, and early 60s.
But are there fewer Christians now than then?
How do we deal with the children and young people who are coming out of a sexually charged culture? How do we deal with wounded little hearts?
Do we take the role of the Sadducee or the Pharisee?
Paul identified with the basic beliefs of the Pharisees, and I would submit that the Lord Jesus did as well, but Paul did not deal with other people the way that the Pharisees did -- and certainly this was not the way of the Lord Jesus.
Do we have a fortress mentality?
Is our zeal merely religious zeal or is it a zeal for the gospel? Do we love people -- I mean, really love them? Do we love people enough to tell them the truth, but to tell them the truth with humility, kindness, and grace?
Do we want to be right -- and admired as right -- or do we want to win the hearts of others?
