Our nation appears to be so profoundly divided politically that one wonders what will happen when one of the two major candidates wins in November: I have never seen so much anger and so much unthinking resentment bottled up -- on both sides. People rarely talk with each other; they talk past each other -- on both sides. But it is still a wonderful time to be alive!
Now is not the time for us to retreat from the world but to put our hands to the plow and engage the world on its terms. We must do whatever our hands find to do with all our might (Ecclesiastes 9:10; Colossians 3:23). Perhaps you should start a business -- perhaps not -- but it is not a time for withdrawal from work. Maybe you should get married and bring children into the world. By all means invest your life in your children and grandchildren, if you have them. But if not, invest your life in the lives of the young around you.
Most importantly, invest your life in the Kingdom of God.
