In Isaiah 37:6-7, we read God's response to the blasphemous communications from the Assyrian king, Sennacherib (Isaiah 36:13-20).
God did several things to deliver his people out of the hands of Sennacherib.
He sent the Angel of the LORD to slaughter 180,000 of Sennacherib's soldiers (Isaiah 37:36).
He sent a demonic spirit to cause him to return home (Isaiah 37:7). This is similar to what God did to the godless Ahab of Israel (1 Kings 22:19-23).
This supernatural action is called putting a hook in his nose (Isaiah 37:29), reflecting the cruelty of the Neo-Assyrian-Babylonian conquerors, who put rings through the noses of their captives, and tied the naked and humiliated captives together with cords connected to these nose rings.
Lastly, in utter mockery of Sennacherib and his god, Hezekiah's God engineered Sennacherib's assassination by two of his sons, Adrammelech and Sharezer, while he is worshipping his demonic idol (Isaiah 37:38).
Pray and trust God. Do NOT fear (Isaiah 37:5-7, 14-16, 33-35).
