As we noted last week, the first six verses of this chapter are the focus of must debate and contention. Are the thousand years to be understood literally or are they figurative? There are four positions taken: Dispensational Premillennialism; Historic Premillennialism; Postmillennialism and amillennialism.
There is an important principle that is often overlooked with respect to the interpretation of this text. That the text is obscure is evident from the variety of positions taken on it. Therefore, this passage must be understood in the light of clear teaching on Christ's coming elsewhere in the New Testament.
We want to look at two passages in 1 Cor. 15 to see what Paul taught about Christ's coming and the kingdom of God. How do the thousand years fit into Paul's teaching?
