Jacob explicitly curses his second and third sons on his deathbed (Genesis 49:5-7). His curse goes back to the time they bypassed him, took matters in their own hands and wiped out the city of Shechem (Genesis 34). Through their father Jacob, God curses Simeon and Levy because they profaned the sign of God's covenant in order to disarm the men of Shechem (Genesis 34:13-17).
Because circumcision was connected to God's covenant with Abraham and had deep, Spiritual significance (Genesis 17; Romans 2:28, 29; 4:11), when the men of Shechem submitted to circumcision, they were calling down God's judgment on themselves.
The violent death of Jesus, when he was cut off in covenant judgment, is the ultimate answer to circumcision's curse (Galatians 3:13, 14; Colossians 2:9-12), and his empty tomb is the proof that God has taken away our curse (Acts 17:31; Romans 4:25).
