(1) The Roman soldier's belt. It kept his garments bound, otherwise he would be hampered by them (2) The Christian's belt - "the belt of truth" The word "truth" does not mean honesty, integrity, but rather "God's truth" as in his revelation to us, in the Bible (a) The authority of the Bible is final as the standard for life, not Church's authority of that of the pope! When the church denies the authority of Scripture its "garments" hang loose -ie we get confusion! It's no suprise therefore that you end up with an alliance between Christians and humanists in Scotland! The devil always aims first at the truth. He knows how foundational it is to every other doctrine we believe in! (b) The clarity of the Bible. No major doctrine or truth we require to know for our salvation is in shadow! Nor is the truth about marriage, the sanctity of life, the treatment of the poor etc. When the devil cannot persuade us to dispose of the truth he will aim to make us reinterpret it to suit his agenda.
