It is somewhat odd that a sermon on marriage should be preached on October 31 -- the day that shares 2 important connotations. The world celebrates Halloween which in its most innocent form has children wearing masks and begging for candy. But in marriage, we often wear masks to either manipulate a spouse or to fool those outside the marriage into thinking everything is OK when our spouse knows better. And we tend to want to be "treat-ed" in just a certain way and in our self-centeredness, we focus our actions and words on getting that treatment. October 31 is also known as Reformation Day by many Christians to celebrate Martin Luther's nailing of his 95 points of disagreement with Catholic theology. Many historians point to this act as the start of the Protestant Reformation. And if anything needs a reformation today, it is our society's sit-com idea of marriage and how that viewe is now pervasive even among God's people. In this message, Pastor Rohlin discusses what it means to be the right spouse for your marriage to succeed.
