O Lord our God, restore unto Thyself the holiness of Your Name. We are saddened that the world and even the church do not truly represent You. Lord, we have not known Your fury and Your anger against sin. We have been sinning and living well. We have ignored Thy laws and we are rich. We have relegated You to a personal choice and disregarded the fact that You are Sovereign and no one can overrule Your choices. We have made Your Name into a byword and we have taunted You with our attitudes. Few men have been on their knees crying out for Thy mercy. Few men have such trepidation in their hearts that they would dare approach You for fear of their own lives. O Lord, where are the godly men of our age?

Lord, Your prophets are disgusted and sickened by what they see today. Lord, we are appalled at the pride and arrogance of man. The greed and lust of man is coming back to destroy him. Materialism has become our god. Secular Journalists have replaced the word of God. The media has become the new prophet. Politicians have become the new messiahs. Marketing has replaced preaching and entertainment has replaced worship. The Church has been relegated to a place of irrelevance. In the day when we need men to preach the whole counsel of God, the pulpits are silent. Lord, there are so many preachers, but so little wisdom. There are so many churches, but so few changed lives. Even the new churches are anti-Church. The new Christians are anti- creedal. The new gospel is a product to market and the new church is selling it like candy in the mall. The customer is King and we have sold the true King in exchange for large crowds and buildings full of consumers.

Emotion has replaced the mind. Feeling good has replaced the fear of God. Family life centers have replaced the assembly of the covenant family. Youth groups have separated the old from the young. Preference has replaced duty and service. We expect happiness and forget that we are called to die. We expect service from others and forget that we are called to serve others. We expect to have our ears tickled rather than to have our hearts cut asunder. We expect the avoidance of sorrow rather than maturity and holiness that only comes through sorrow.

Lord, where is that place where God is worshipped in such a way that silence reflects his holiness? Where is that place where visitors fall on their faces in fear and reverence? We have become casual because we worship a casual God. We have compromised because we do not have a high regard for truth. We have become relaxed because we have a God who is easy. We have become soft and expectant because we have created a God who is sleek and glitzy.

O Lord, your prophets are disgusted. We are sickened. We are ready to go and hide in our caves. We fear for the people. Lord, the world has invaded your holy temple. They have laid waste your habitation. We have become a reproach to the world. O Lord, pour out Your wrath upon the ungodly. Let them not desecrate Thy Holy Name. Lord, it is for Your sake that we cry out. Lord, it is for Your honor that we ask these things.

Lord, do not remember the sins of our forefathers. Do not hold their sins against us. Help us O God of our salvation, for the glory of Your Name. Deliver us and forgive us of our sins. Let not our enemy say unto us, "Where is Your God?" Lord, our groanings we bring before You. Let the prisoner and the helpless come before You. According to Your great power preserve those who are doomed to die. Lord, we deserve collapse. Lord, we deserve death. All those around us deserve death. We deserve to be buried in the ground and covered with the dirt of the earth. Return to the evil one seven times the damage he has caused us. Let there be justice evident in this world. Yet, remember O Lord, we are the sheep of Your pasture. We will give thanks to Thee forever. To all generations we shall tell of the greatness of Your name. Remember us O Lord, in the day of destruction. Remember O Lord, Your people. Remember Jesus Christ on the cross and pass us by in the day of judgment. Remember Jesus Christ and his blood sprinkled on our doorposts and may the angel of death leave us alive. Remember Your promises O Lord. Forget none of your benefits. Grant to us fear joined with peace and joy. Grant to us the knowledge that we are the people of God and in You we have an inheritance that cannot fade away and cannot be stolen. Grant to us here this morning the joy of worship in soberness and reverence that we might indeed know the joy of the Living God. In Christ's Name we pray. Amen
