The Church of The Living God – By Tommy Robbins
The LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation. This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it. Psalm 132: 13-14 The church of the living God is not an organization founded by man and inhabited by those who choose to join its ranks. God’s church on earth (and in Heaven) is the spiritual body of the Lord Jesus Christ, consisting of those whom he has chosen for himself before the foundation of the world. Christ himself is the Head. Zion (His church) is the result of his desire, and he dwells in her forever. Although the masses claim its name and fame, only those whom he has redeemed by his blood, sanctified by his Spirit, and called by his grace are members of his glorious body. Only those in whom Christ the Lord dwells live and enjoy the blessings of his grace. It is in Zion that he reveals himself, and is worshipped and praised. The very existence of Zion is the evidence of God’s sovereign grace and mercy. It is Impossible for the world to comprehend the glory of Christ in Zion and appreciate her beauty. They try to mimic it with form and ceremony and are a reproach to God. The true church of God is but little esteemed by man, yea, even scorned by religion. Yet, it is indeed desired and chosen by God and there will he rest forever. “I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them” (John 17:9-10).
The Lord’s Church – by Henry Mahan
I love the Lord’s church! I choose to be personally and closely identified with the body of believers in my area who love Christ, worship him, and boldly preach his sovereign, redeeming grace. Churches can be very disappointing things; and, like those churches of the apostle’s days, they all have their faults. Church members are not all they ought to be but they are all our brothers and sisters and I prefer their company above all others. Someone once wrote of his church:
“Yet, Lord, thy saints on earth may reap
Some profit by the good we do;
These are the company I keep,
These are the choicest friends I know.
Let others choose the sons of mirth
To give a relish to their wine;
I love the men of heavenly birth,
Whose thoughts and language are divine.”
The Door Of Utterance – by David Eddmenson
“Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds.” -- Colossians 4:3
If anyone is to ever believe on Christ and be “born again,” God must open unto us that preach, the door of utterance, so that we may speak the mystery of Christ. If God would enable you to pray for me, please pray that God may open the door of utterance to and for me that I may speak the mystery of Christ.
I covet all the prayers that you carry before the throne of God’s grace on my behalf, but the one that I covet most is that God would open unto me and all God’s preachers a door of utterance, that Christ and Him crucified may be preached to the saving of lost souls. No matter how much I study or how much I pray, if God does not open this door, it is all in vain! To speak the mystery of Christ in preaching is the means that God uses to save His people. I pray that you never leave our service saying, “what a wonderful sermon,” but leave with joy in your heart saying, “what a wonderful and amazing Saviour.” If you truly heard the message of Christ and Christ alone, then God was pleased to open the door of utterance and speak the mystery of Christ!
