This is Life Eternal
"And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." – John 17:3
How many are anxious to know what is the way of salvation, how eternal life is to be obtained, and how to "flee from the wrath to come." But the Lord Jesus has shewn in one short sentence in what eternal life consists, that it is in the knowledge of the "only true God, and of Jesus Christ, whom he has sent." He therefore that knows the Father and the Son has eternal life in his soul. The Lord Jesus, in the sixth chapter of John, quoted this amongst other passages of the Old Testament, and says, "It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me." He lays this down, then, as one especial fruit of divine teaching, that it produces a coming unto him. The Spirit, who teacheth to profit, holds up before the eyes of the soul, the Person, work, blood, love, grace, and righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ. He shews the soul that he is just such a Saviour as it needs. He opens up the dignity of his Person, and shews that he is God-man. He makes known in the conscience that he has offered up himself a sacrifice for sin; that he has shed his atoning blood so that the sin of the Church is forever put away from the sight of a just God. He opens up before the eyes of the mind his glorious righteousness, as that in which the Father is well pleased, and in which if the soul has but an interest, it is secure from the wrath to come. He unfolds to the heart the willingness of Christ to receive every coming sinner; he shews the treasures of mercy and grace which are locked up in him; and brings down in the heart the comforting words that he spake in the days of his flesh, such as, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." "Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." "If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink." – J.C. Philpot
Repentance toward God—Faith in Christ
Repentance is the hand releasing my idols; faith is an empty hand that reaches out to Christ for his gift of grace.
Repentance is godly sorrow over sin; faith receives a full pardon from Christ.
Repentance cries, “God be merciful to me a sinner;” faith embraces the sinner’s Saviour.
Repentance is a genuine hatred for the pollution of sin; faith is seeking cleansing in Christ.
Repentance is the leper covering his mouth and crying, “Unclean, unclean;” faith is the leper coming to Christ and saying, “Lord, if you will you can make me clean.” -- Henry Mahan
A Witness Of Truth
“A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.” -- Prov. 14:25
A true witness is a witness of Truth. A man who tells the truth concerning God, God’s Christ, and God’s Gospel is one whom God uses as a means to deliver souls. “But a deceitful witness speaketh lies.” No one has ever been saved under the sound of a lie. Any preaching that attempts to diminish God and exalt man is a lie. Christ, speaking of His own said, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” (John 17:16-17) God’s people are set aside (sanctified) through the Truth of Christ and His Gospel, which is found only in His Holy Word. The Word of God is the unadulterated Truth. Thank God that He enables His servants to preach the Truth of His Word. Anything and everything else is a lie.

Pray For and Encourage One Another
Brethren, we’re walking through a world that hates us for Christ’s sake. We’re struggling with doubts and fears within and discouragements and disappointments without…continually being attacked on every side by the fiery darts of Satan that would hinder us. Knowing these things, let us be praying for one another, looking for opportunities to be an encouragement…knowing that our lives are but a vapor and soon we shall leave this fleeting world for that which the Lord Jesus has secured and prepared for us. – Marvin Stalnaker
