O COME, Let us Worship – Psalm 95:6

The Holy Spirit of God through David is exhorting all of God’s people to Come and worship. “O COME, let us sing unto the Lord (v1) . . . Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving (v.2) . . . O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our Maker” (v.6). WHY. . . would the people of God need to be exhorted to come worship God? How can this be? Sadly, because they have flesh to contend with and the flesh is sinful and weak. They live in a material world which tempts them, allures and sometimes influences them. The fowl of the air steal away the word of God and thoughts of God; the thorns (cares) of this life choke out the Word and often get hold of us. The world and things of the world sometimes seem to overcome us; seem to have hold of us . . . and so the Spirit of God calls us again . . . calls us to come . . . come to Christ, come to worship, come to His house, come to the tabernacle where the sacrifice is being preached, where the table of showbread is being served, where the water from the smitten Rock is flowing freely for the thirsty. O COME!!! This is not just an exhortation but a command. Worship, like eating, drinking, breathing, is not an option . . . but a necessity, vital, a matter of life or death. For the gospel is truly a savour of life to life. Those who have the Son have life and that means they have a hunger, thirst, need and love for the Son. He is not a part of their life, He is their life. There are no exceptions. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Sadly, just like our sons and daughters, we are sometimes disobedient, sometimes stray, sometimes don’t listen and get out in the world and in trouble . . . but the Spirit of God calls us back and we come . . . we come repentant, sorry, ashamed, and thankful to be called back.

Over and over the Holy Spirit of God calls, commands, warns, and exhorts God’s children, just like we do our own. Over and over the solemn warnings . . . We ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip (Heb.2:1). We ought to be more serious and earnest about eternal matters as this life quickly flies away. How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?” (Heb.2:2). How can we neglect the worship of our God, the seeking of His mercy and grace, the help of His Spirit and be so taken with the things of this life of vanity? How shall WE escapethe wrath of God which abides upon all who have no interest in worshipping His Son, if we do the same?

“Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To Day if ye will hear His voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness” (Heb.3:7-8). To Day is the Lord’s day, To Day is the day we gather to hear His voice; To Day is the day God’s people assemble themselves together to worship, sing the praise of, call upon the Name of our Great God, in the name of Christ our Lord, for His great salvation and for His great mercy, love and grace to us poor, worthless people. O what a privilege, what an honor, what a blessing, what a good thing, what a worthy thing we do, what good it does us, what a needful, helpful, vital thing it is to worship our God together. O fear the Lord ye saints, for with many who profess His name He is not well pleased: for they are overthrown and overcome by the people and things of this world (1 Cor.10:5). Let us exhort one another, urge one another, encourage one another to not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is’. . . andlet us be so much morediligent and urgent about these things as ye see the day approaching. The day or our Lord is at hand. He is at the door. The trump shall soon sound, the Bridegroom is coming . . . O let us be watchful unto prayer, waiting, our lamps (hearts) full of oil and burning, longing, looking for our Lord. Blessed is the man or woman whom the Lord shall find watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.” – Proverbs 8:34-36

A Right Fear and the Right Pursuit – by John Chapman

“A right fear of God comes from a right knowledge of God, and will overcome all other fears. Psalm 27:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?’”

“The pursuit of happiness is only obtained as one pursues Christ, to pursue anything else will lead to despair.”

Where is Your Heart? – by John Chapman

It is not hard to tell where a person’s heart is. It is where their treasure is. Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. If Christ is my treasure, then He has my heart.
