It is More Profitable

It is more profitable and enjoyable to love than hate, to forgive than to hold a grudge, to smile than to frown, to get along than to quarrel, to behave kindly than to act ugly. The way of the transgressor is hard, but not the way of the believer.

Have You Read?

THE Lord Jesus Christ posed this question (indictment) to the religious leaders of His day. He asked this of them quite often, “Have ye never read?” These men prided themselves in their supposed knowledge of Scripture but proved they did not know it all, for they did not know the living and true God and Jesus Christ of Whom the scriptures spake. The same question, or indictment, needs to be leveled at our generation . . . “Have ye never read?”

There are more bibles today than ever, but few who truly read them. And the Bibles most do read are perverted versions of the original. There are so many today who hold the Truth in unrighteousness; who literally hold a bible in their hands, yet use it as a religious prop for vain glorious and covetous reasons. Men and women subject the Word of God to all manner of indignities and insults, using it for mere show and a display of their ‘godliness.’

May God make us a Bible-reading people like the noble Bereans of old. May the Lord cause us to seek His will and way; to seek all our answers from His Word only; esteeming the wisdom of the world as foolishness and the wisdom that is God’s Word as the only true wisdom, for truly . . . The Law of The Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the Testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The Statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the Commandments of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The Fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever: the Judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether”(Psalm 19:7-9).What need have we of anything other than God’s glorious Book? God forbid that we should esteem anything said or written by a human being more than Word of the living God.

Fix Your Eyes and Hearts Upon The Lord

When our Lord was upon earth, and conversed with His disciples, their eyes and hearts were fixed upon Him. In danger, He was their defender; their guide, when in perplexity; and to Him they looked for the solution of all their doubts and the supply of all their wants. He is, now, withdrawn from our eyes, but faith sets Him, still, before us for the same purposes and, according to its degree, with the same effects, as if we actually saw Him. His spiritual presence, apprehended by faith, is a restraint from evil, an encouragement to every service, and affords a present refuge and help in every time of trouble.

Sin Subdued – by J.C. Philpot

"He will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea."Micah 7:19

Sin subdued is the next greatest blessing to sin pardoned; and wherever God pardons sin he subdues sin; for the same grace which saves sanctifies; the same grace which casts sin behind God's back, puts its foot upon the corruptions of the believer, and prevents iniquity from having dominion over him. The Scripture is very plain and express upon this point. "Sin shall not have dominion over you." Why? "Because ye are not under the law," which gives sin its strength and power, "but under grace," which is able to subdue its dominion. Nor do I believe that any child of God can ever rest satisfied except by the subduing of his sins as well as the pardoning of them. To have his unbelief, infidelity, worldly-mindedness, pride, and covetousness subdued by the grace of God, its power taken out of it, its dominion dethroned, its authority destroyed, and its strength weakened and diminished, that he may not be under the dominion of any lust, or carried away by the strength of any secret or open sin, but may walk before God in the light of his countenance, as desirous to know his will and do it,—this is the desire and breathing of every one that knows sin in its guilt, filth, and power. How gracious, then, is the promise, how sweet the favour, that the Lord has promised to subdue our iniquities by the same grace whereby he pardons them; that, as we receive the blood of Christ to sprinkle the conscience, so we receive the grace of Christ to sanctify and renew the soul, and the strength of Christ to overcome all our inward and outward foes.
