Often times we come into the house of God with a cloud hanging over our heads. Then we hear the gospel, the good news, and go out walking on clouds

“You learn your theology most where your sorrows take you.” Martin Luther

“God hath one Son without sin, but none without sorrow.” John Trapp

The Works of the Flesh

“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness,

lasciviousness, idolatry, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, . .. Gal.5:19-21

Paul says that the works of the flesh are manifest. By this he does not mean that they are done openly and in plain sight but rather that they are apparent, evident or plainly recognized. This statement is a declaration that none of these things could ever be attributed to “walking in the Spirit.” Though some of them involve religious practices, they are not born of spiritual light but of spiritual darkness. They are works of the flesh, done in the power of the flesh and have nothing to do with spiritual life except being a constant enemy of it. Paul says that the works of the flesh are “these.” All of “these” are acts and mindsets that flow from the nature of sin and rebellion against God and His Gospel. Make no mistake here, if you are involved in any or all of these things and have not repented then there is no reason to believe that you are a spiritual being at all. With verse 17 Paul makes it clear that though temptation may arise and the believer may even fall into one aspect or another of these, he or she will not remain there. :The Spirit will prevent him from doing what he would. -- Tim James

I get some encouraging emails and texts but don’t usually share them or keep them. Yesterday’s faith, yesterday’s profession is no good today. Are we believing today? Today is the day of salvation.

As Joseph’s heart was full of love to his brethren, even when he ‘spake roughly to them’ and ‘withdrew himself from them’; for he went aside to ease his heart by weeping; so the heart of God is full of love to His people, even when He seems to be most displeased with them, and to turn His back upon them.” -- Thomas Brooks

Things That Promote Peace “Let us therefore follow after the things which promote peace,

and things wherewith one may edify another” -- Romans 14:19

1. Be careful to LOVE one another with a true heart. “Love covers a multitude of failures.”
2. Avoid a spirit of ARGUMENT AND DEBATE. One may win an argument and lose a friend.
3. Beware of JEALOUSY. Jealousy destroys happiness and builds suspicion.
4. Beware of ENVY. Let us learn to rejoice in another’s gifts, blessings, and happiness.

God gives as HE will!
5. Do not MEDDLE in the private lives and domestic affairs of others.
6. Guard against a TOUCHY TEMPER: “For every trifling thing to take offense

shows either great pride or little sense.”
7. Learn to KEEP A CONFIDENCE. “He that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.”
8. Strive to HEAL DIFFERENCES. “Blessed are the peacemakers.”
9. Be always ready to FORGIVE ANYTHING. “Forgive us our sins AS we forgive those who sin against us.
– H. Mahan
