My Help Cometh From the Lord – Psalm 121:2
David did not look to people on earth for his help but to God in Heaven; neither should we. It is a vain thing to look to Pharoah and Egypt for help; for vain is the help of man (Isa. 30:1-3,7; Isa.31:1-3. Man cannot help himself; cannot save himself from anything. God is our Saviour.
This Day Of Famine
“Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a FAMINE in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of HEARING THE WORDS OF THE LORD” – Amos 8:11
The famine and drought of the Word is at its height when: A.) Scriptures become a source of controversy instead of comfort. B.) When the Word is a source of debate instead of inspiration and instruction. C.) When we are more concerned with proving our doctrine rather than PROVING OURSELVES! -- Henry Mahan
Not Wrestling With Flesh and Blood
It is not a physical disease that we are contending with today but a spiritual disease called unbelief and fear. It is not a biological thing that we are battling but a demonic thing. Satan wants nothing more than to keep God’s people from worship, from hearing the Word; keep them away from each other. He has us right where he wants us if we sit at home listening to CNN rather than in God’s house listening to God’s Word. What easy prey we are if we don’t resist him
.
Obedience (to God’s Word) is the safeguard against the snare of the enemy. We cannot reason on what we see, we must deny what we hear. Reason is no guide for the people of God. We must be absolutely and completely guided and governed by the Word of God. -- Scott Richardson
“Preach The Word . . .”
That which is worthy of God’s revealing is worthy of our preaching. By every word of the Lord shall men live. Let every revealed truth be brought forth in its own season as we preach verse by verse. There is no good question which shall not be answered, no needed subject which shall not be addressed, and no Christ-honoring doctrine which shall not be declared if we preach His Word as it is written by the prophets and apostles. Go not to the books of men for a subject, not to our own cleverness for an outline; GO TO THE WORD! With such infinity before us, with such glorious truth to preach, and with such a merciful Redeemer to glorify, it would be wanton wickedness for us to go elsewhere for material. – C.H. Spurgeon
God Will Punish Sin! -- Rolfe Barnard (1904-1969)
Almost everybody in America is a church member, but they don’t think that God will punish sin. They sleep well at night, because they don’t believe that God will punish sin. They don’t let their church membership interfere with their daily living, because they don’t believe that God will punish sin. Talk to them about Jesus dying on the cross and they are not interested, because they don’t believe that God will punish sin. And, of course, nobody will be interested in whether Christ did anything for him on the cross until he believes that God will punish sin. There is no use to apply a remedy to this generation; this generation does not need its sins forgiven, for they don’t think there is any punishment awaiting them. What they need to hear is the first message of that bloody cross of my Lord, GOD WILL PUNISH SIN! Every time they nailed those nails into the flesh of the Son of God, every stroke of the hammer was saying, "God will punish sin," "God will punish sin," "God will punish sin."
