Prayer, Faith & Baptism
The Bible teaches and we believe and preach salvation by grace without works; dogmatically and strongly. But we also believe and preach that there is forgiveness of sins and pardon for the greatest sinner, whosoever he or she may be, that will . . . call on the name of the Lord. We say without hesitation, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.” But nowhere in the Bible can you find that anyone can have salvation without asking for it! There is complete pardon of all sins for anyone who will cry out from the heart, “Lord, forgive me of my sins.” But there is no pardon of any sins if we do not ask for it. No one is saved by their prayers, but you will not find one person in scripture who is not saved without praying. It is the same with faith. Believing does not save us, Christ saves us, but faith is the evidence that He has saved us. “He that believeth on me HATH everlasting life”(John 6:47). No one is saved who does not believe God, believe His word, believe the Truth; no one is saved without believing on the Lord Jesus Christ. It is the same with baptism; though baptism does not save us, no one is saved without it. The Lord said so: “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned”(Mark 16:15-16).
Have you called, prayed unto the Lord to save you? Do you call? Do you believe? Have you confessed the Lord Jesus Christ publicly in believer’s baptism?
An Unbroken Relationship
I once heard a story of two brothers being separated by adoption as infants, neither realizing that he had a brother for 25 or 30 years. When finally they learned of each other’s existence and whereabouts, and arranged a meeting, it was quite an occasion. What joy and happiness they shared!
What joy it should create in our hearts every time we meet one who professes faith and submission to our sovereign Redeemer. We are members of Christ and of one another. A relationship never to be broken—everlasting! Brothers and Sisters from every walk of life, yet having one mind, one heart, one will—the glory of their one Master and the welfare of the family. Scattered throughout all the nations of this world, yet all in their hearts “seek a country”, and that “city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.”
What joy we share, Brother and Sisters, in our one Master, in one another, in our mutual faith and hope, and in that “joy set before us”. Thank God for Brothers and Sisters!!! -- Maurice Montgomery
We Count Them Happy Which Endure – James 5:11
We look back at the courage, faith and patience of these believers and call them blessed! They are happy now; the glory of God rests upon them. They felt honoured to be counted worthy to suffer for Christ’s sake. Now they are glorified in Him .
“You have heard (especially) of the patience of Job in the book that bears his name. Though he was severely tried in the loss of all temporal comforts, possessions and friends, he did not murmur against God or charge Him foolishly (Job 1:21,22). You have also seen the Lord’s purpose in all this and how He richly blessed Job, for the Lord is full of pity, tenderness and mercy. The Lord loves His children and all that He brings to pass in their lives is for their eternal good (Job 42:10; Ps.111:4) -- From Henry Mahan’s Bible Commentaries
